Probably one of the most interesting incarnations of a Batman Cartoon is finally getting the panel treatment. DC Comics has announced a six issue miniseries centered around future Batman Terry McGinnis and the hit WB Cartoon Batman Beyond. For those of you who might now know what this is, Batman Beyond takes place in Gotham City in the year 2039. An aging Bruce Wayne is forced to hang up the Mantle of the Bat for good after a near miss while in action. Enter Terry McGinnis, a young man who seeks to bring his father’s killer to justice. Word is that Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Stephen King’s The Stand, Marvel Knights Spiderman, Big Love) wants to revive the 1966 It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s Superman musical, rewritten from the original book, and promising to follow the Superman mythos faithfully. The plot finds Lex Luthor being snubbed by the world who chooses Superman as Citizen Of The Century. Luthor decides to have Superman killed and hires a slew of villains to do his dirty work including Prankster, Toyman and Magpie (John Byrne’s version altered for the time period). The songs will be altered a bit for the play including a new song for Lois & Clark and lullaby for baby Kal-El at the beginning of the play. Spiderman Creator Stan Lee has a new project in the works. Teaming up with Archie Comics and A Squared Entertainment, Lee will tell the story of 7 aliens who find themselves stranded on earth after their spaceship crashes. They befriend Lee who helps them become Superheroes. "Although I’ve briefly appeared in other comics, Super Seven is the first time that I’ll actually be a continuing character in a far-out, original superhero series," Lee said. Assuming everything gets off the ground without a hitch, Archie will publish the comic this fall and A Squared Entertainment will work on a TV series and online properties. Sort of. That was a cruel joke, one my niece is gonna kill me for, no doubt. Pushing Daisies was one of the greatest shows to unjustly get the axe. It was fun, whimsical, heart warming, and beautifully produced. All of us that were fans, still feel bitter disappointment at it’s untimely passing. We have reason to rejoice.
