Back when I was in on the Beta of STAR TREK ONLINE, one of the most enjoyable aspects of the game was that you got your own ship and got to participate in space missions. The combat took strategy as well, because you had to monitor your deflector shields and keep repositioning your ship to mitigate the damage and allow your shields to recharge. My only complaint is that flying was kind of cumbersome. But that's the STAR TREK way. In STAR TREK it's more about being a space navy where you pull up next to a ship and pommel the hell out of it than it is about daring aerial maneuvers and dog fighting. Well a video of the new space combat in STAR WARS: THE OLD REPUBLIC has hit the…

That title sounds like the beginning of a bad joke, I know. A while ago I heard that baseball player Curt Schilling,  R.A. Salvatore, Todd McFarlane, and Ken Rolston, the lead designer on Elder Scrolls: Oblivion had all gotten together to make a new RPG. I remember laughing and thinking to myself, "Wow, that's a motley crew." and then giving the project not a single thought afterwards. While trolling the internet I stumbled across these amazing production stills on that forgotten project, Kingdoms of Alamur: Reckoning, and now I'm very, very intrigued. KINGDOMS OF ALAMUR: RECKONING promises an open ended environment with epic narrative and as you can see from these images huge weapons and gnarly monsters courtesy of MacFarlane's dark and twisty little mind. Not a whole lot of…

While game play details are still few and far between, we finally have some sick images and an official title for the Batman Arkham Asylum sequel, due out next year.  The official game title will be Batman: Arkham City.  Thanks to a press release, here's what we know: “soaring into Arkham City, the new maximum security ‘home’ for all of Gotham City’s thugs, gangsters and insane criminal masterminds. Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, this highly anticipated sequel introduces a brand-new story that draws together a new all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batman universe, as well as a vast range of new and enhanced gameplay features to deliver the ultimate experience as the Dark Knight.”…

It looks like TRANSFORMERS is going try its hand at the MMORPG game. Chinese developer NetDragon is developing an online game based on the hit franchise. The good news is that Hasbro has officially signed off on the project, so we don't have to worry about legal entanglements down the road. The bad news is that the game will release initially only in  Asia, Russia, the Middle East and North Africa. North America, Western Europe, and Australia are being left out of the release loop for the time being. Personally, I'm not that interested. While I do like the idea of playing with a Transformer character creator engine, there would have to be major innovation conceptually for this game to work. We're talking an overhaul on the whole MMORPG system (which…

Here is another TOR video showing the armor progression of the Bounty Hunter class. I really admire what Bioware is doing to try and encourage players to roll a class that doesn’t use a lightsaber. I admit that I will probably roll a Jedi; I’ve been building lightsabers out of empty paper towel rolls since I was 5, so it’s kinda a given.  However, I will definitely experiment with other classes as well. The jet packs alone make me want to roleplay a Mandalorian!

More great SWTOR news from E3. Players will indeed get their own ships, and we have a video featuring two of them. The Corellian Vanguard-Class Light Corvette and the Fury-Class Imperial Transport. Both of them look amazing and take me back to the gloriousness of KOTOR and the Ebon Hawk. Here is what Bioware had to say on the TOR site: Ships represent freedom and a place to call your own. They’re your base of operations and a handy retreat. A place to relax and talk to your Companion Characters, socialize with other players or to plan your next adventure. With every new unveiling I am getting more and more obsessed with this game. I hope you get some space battle action in this game as well. That was one…

The first trailer for STAR WARS: THE FORCE UNLEASHED 2 has hit the interwebs thanks to E3, and it looks crazy good. No gameplay in the trailer, but if you like to watch some lightsaber violence, then read on. THE FORCE UNLEASHED follows the story of Darth Vader’s secret apprentice who is charged with the task of helping Vader overthrow the Emperor. In the sequel it looks like the Apprentice has gone rogue, and may be embarking on a more noble pursuit.

I FRAKKING hope so. In spite of IMDB listing Vincent Martella as the voice for the better half of the dynamic duo, the people at WBIE are denying the claim. “To our knowledge, what you asked about is inaccurate information, We are not yet discussing details for the sequel.” But there is hope. Arkham Asylum director Sephton Hill has admitted that he loves Robin and there is some exciting ideas about co-op between the character and Bats, so maybe we’ll get to see this after all. I personally wish they would drop Arkham as the setting. I loved the first game, but it doesn’t make much sense to send Batman BACK there. How about a game that plays the same, but has a more open map like GTA where all…

Here is the new Halo: Reach multiplayer trailer, and it looks insane. It’s almost unrecognizable as a Halo game altogether, which kinda worries me. Still, I’ll give it a go.

My Eyes Fall Gently Shut
It’s strange the things you think about in the end. I know the odds of survival for a young man in my position are considered to be quite high. The odds for a man my age? Considerably lower. Somewhere in the area of one in one million, I imagine. I can’t help but picture one million men—all decked out in the same preposterously bulky suits—stretched out alongside me, trailing out for mile...
